World’s Major Currencies Epistemology

World’s Major Currencies Epistemology. The currencies of the world’s most important economies. They have names and backgrounds that are as unique as the countries they come from.

The Dollar

The name dollar is used in a lot of places. Including many countries, like the United States,  Canada, and Australia. All three of these countries get their silver coins
minted during the Middle Ages in a small valley, or “Thal,” in Bohemia called Joachimsthal.  Just as a sausage from Frankfurt came to be called a frankfurter, the coins from Joachimsthal were called “Joachimsthaler” or simply “Thaler,” and came to be called “dollar” in English.

The Pound

People use the term “pound” when they talk about the weights used to make money. Like one Roman pound (12 ounces) of silver. There are words like pawn shop and pawn that come from the same root as the word penny, which means “to pledge.” A penny, like any kind of money, is a “pledge” of value. Liras are used in both Italy and Turkey. An original coin’s weight can be found in the word, which comes from the Latin word libra, which mean “pound.”

The Peso

In Spanish, to describe coins that were made with a certain amount of gold or silver, the word “weight,” peso, is used. For a long time, there were two types of coins: one was made of gold and the other was made of silver. In Spain, the currency is called a peseta, which means “little peso.” When people talk about money in Latin American countries that speak Spanish, the word “peso” is used to describe the currency.

The Krona

It’s called a “krone” in Denmark and Norway, and a “krona” in Sweden. This word refers to the money that was originally made by the king or queen, with royal crowns stamped on the coins that were first made. There is no longer a crown as the symbol and has been replaced, but the name is still the same.

The Franc

Which is used in France, Switzerland, Belgium, and other countries and territories, is based on the early coins that were used in France. They had the Latin words “franconium rex,” which means “king of the Franks,” on them. One of the first groups to settle in the area was the Franks. The coin and the country of France were named after them. The German mark and the Finnish markka are named after the small marks that were cut into coins to show how much precious metal they had. People often call the German mark, or the deutsche mark, the D-mark.

Riyal: This word comes from the Spanish word real, which comes from the Latin word “regalis,” which means “royal” coins. The riyal is used in Saudi Arabia and Qatar, and the rial is used in Iran.

The dinar, which is used in Iraq and Kuwait, and many other places, gets its name from the denarius, a Roman coin. People in India, Pakistan, and other countries in the subcontinent use rupees, which are called rupiahs in Indonesia. The word “rupyu,” which means “coined silver,” comes from the Sanskrit word rupyu.

Yiam was an ancient word that meant “round.” It could also be translated as “a small round thing.” They are both named after the shape of the original coins. The Japanese currency is called yen, and the Chinese currency is called yuan. Both are named after the shape of the original coins.
